The Center for the Study of Democracy and Governance has conducted for the second year in a row the Security Barometer 2020.

The barometer reflects the attitudes and perceptions of the public opinion regarding internal and external security threats, the performance of security and justice institutions, and the importance and effectiveness of security related policies, measures, and actions.

The main purpose of the Security Barometer is to contribute in improving a well-informed and data-driven debate on security issues and to linking policy making and security provision with citizens’ attitudes and concerns.

In a democratic system that builds on free elections and delegation of decision-making powers from citizens to public officials, soliciting and reflecting on the attitudes and opinions of citizens is a necessity, both for the design of security policies and for the assessment of their implementation and effectiveness.

On the other hand, the Security Barometer provides a platform for in-depth analysis and initiation of study projects by interested students in security issues, international relations and good governance of the security sector which play an important role in improving the security debate.

In this context this Roundtable focused on presenting the findings of the Security Barometer 2020, and discussing with students and faculty lecturers on the promotion of a research agenda in the field of security.
